Foil insulation - banned
MBIE has declared a ban on retrofitting or repairing foil.
The ban is specifically on the following building methods;
1. The installation of foil insulation into residential buildings with an existing electrical installation (retrofitting foil insulation), and
2. The repair of foil insulation in residential buildings with an existing electrical installation (e.g. stapling ripped or damaged foil back onto the floor joists of a building).
The Eco Insulation team have had specific training about how to work around foil insulation.
FOIL INSULATION IS NOW BANNED
Foil insulation in ceilings?
Foil insulation in ceilings is also a safety hazard.
There are two areas where we observe foil being incorrectly installed
1. Across the top of the ceiling, either under or over the existing ceiling insulation - this is an electrical hazard and should be removed
2. Foil installed directly below the roofing (tiles, corrugated iron etc) as a roof underlay - in this instance NZS 4246:2016 states that bulk insulation cannot be installed due to high probability of condensation forming, increasing risk and damage
The Eco Insulation team have had specific training about how to work around foil insulation.
